NEWS & UPDATES

CORONAVIRUS

I have been looking at how other businesses have been respond to this virus and would like to borrow some of their words to describe the response to this virus 'this is a business built on meaningful human connection - lets use that connection to support each other and get through this.'

Over the past few weeks there have been massive changes in how our community interacts. For the cafe, this has meant no office workers coming in for lunch and more families coming in for coffee and pastries. Now, as we need to practice greater 'social distancing' I am evaulating next steps. These changes, in combination with more and more of you wonderful folks coming in for lunch, coffee, treats, and special orders has allowed me to look for and hire some more staff, someone who I think will be a good fit. This is wonderful news! Good people are hard to find and I want to keep them around.

I believe I have a responsibility to my employees and community and will use the cafe's resources to support both.  The focus is on continuity, I want to be around for when this virus passes and everyone can come together in person.

I have been absolutely blown away.

Since we closed, countless people have reached out to ask what they can do to support the cafe.  Whether they can help behind the scenes or stop by to pick up a coffee or order an extra challah loaf.

I strongly believe that while the job security and wellbeing of my staff is my responsibility and number one priority, I cannot predict or fend off the unprecedented challenges and hardships that lie ahead for the cafe and my employees (This is a new thing to say!).

This crisis has given me the capacity to work on some longstanding projects. That has taken the form of this website and a push into online ordering to help busy customers. This will continue after the virus. In the meantime, I hope this will help the cafe continue to thrive. Like any business, we have financial obligations that do not go away. So please, do not hesitate to reach out.

There are some other projects simmering and I hope to announce them soon!

Stay safe,

Shawn

ONLINE ORDERS LAUNCHING SOON!

We have been looking into this for awhile now and have started on building a website so that you can keep up to date on what we are up to where you are. As part of this, we are exploring adding the ability for you to order online and pick up in store. This way you can enjoy the same great coffee, pastries, and lunch items even under a time crunch. Sign up to our newsletter to stay up to date when this comes online (no pun intended!).

THE JOURNEY

Shawn's started in 2016 and it was a tough first few years. We survived thanks to the high school's pretzel roll sales and it has been a journey ever since.

Every month we see more and more people coming in and coming back, forming friendships and making us a part of their daily lives and family traditions.

In January of 2020 we decided it was time to start looking to add another person to help meet the increasing demand and are now happy to say we think we have found them, so be prepared to see a few new faces behind the counter when you come in for your scone!
